ABSTRACT |
The
CO2 laser has been widely used in otorhinolaryngologic fields, especially in the laryngologic field,
CO2 laser is used as the most useful therapeutic tool. Recently there have been several
successful reports concerning the efficacy of bronchoscopic CO2 laser surgery for the treatment of stenosis of subglottis and trachea, the removal of benign mass such as papilloma and the palliative surgery of the primary or metastatic malignancy in the trachea and bronchus. We have analysed our experience in the 14 cases of bronchoscopic
CO2 laser surgery : 2 cases laryngeal and tracheal papilloma and others, laryngeal or tracheal stenosis. The results are as follow : 1) The extensive subglottic and tracheal papilloma was satisfactorily removed with
CO2 laser bronchoscopic surgery. 2) The one case of band form subglottic stenosis and 3 cases of stenosis with soft tissue such as granulation tissue were successfully managed, but others such as circumferential scarring, complete cartilaginous stenosis, and stenosis longer than 1 cm in length showed unfavorable results.
