ABSTRACT

Foreign bodies in the paranasal sinuses are mostly of traumatic origin and majority of cases are seen in adults. When a foreign body is located in the ethmoid or sphenoid sinus, its relative inaccessibility by classical rhinosurgical approaches raise a dilemma. The opportunity to operate clearly, precisely, and safely by means of endoscopic approach gave a new perspective on an old problems. The endoscopic approach enables a quick and accurate removal, and a very short postoperative morbidity. Authors experienced a case of matallic foreign body in the sphenoid sinus of a 35 year old man. A nail without nail-head entered into left sphenoid sinus through the left medial epicanthus, lacrimal bone and ethoid sinus. This foreign body was removed successfully through endoscopic approach without difficulty.
