Minor Salivary Gland Tumors : A Clinical Study of 83 Cases |

ABSTRACT |
We analyzed, retrospectively, 83 cases of the minor salivary gland tumor who visited from 1985 to 1992. Histopathologically, benign tumors were 16 patients and malignant tumors were 67 patients. The sex ratio was 1.1 : 1. The most common age group was sixth decade(23 cases) and mean age was 50 years old. Chief complaints were frequently painless mass, and patients were complained variable symptoms according to anatomical sites of minor salivary gland. The most common sites of benign tumor were soft and hard palate(7 and 5 cases), and malignant tumors were commonly developed maxillary sinus(18 cases), hard palate(15 cases), floor of mouth(8 cases), etc. Histopathologically, fourteen patients of benign tumor were pleomorphic adenoma, thirtyone patients of malignant tumor were adenoid cystic carcinoma. According to the criteria of the AJCC on staging stage I was 5 cases, stage II 12 cases, stage III 15 cases, and stage IV 34 cases. Overall five year survival rates of definitive therapy group(57 patients) by actuarial method were 53.8%.
