Among facial bone fractures, orbital fractures may produce complications such as EOM limitation, diplopia, enophthalmos, infraorbital hypesthesia. From January, 1993 to Augest, 1995, 27 cases of orbital fractures among 52 cases of facial bone factures admitted to the department of Otolaryngology, Hanil General Hospital, were analyzed retrospectively. Orbital fractures comprised 51% of all facial bone fractures and the causes were assault(10 cases), T.A.(5 cases), and fall-down (5 cases). Among orbital fractures, pure blow-out fractures were 11 cases(41%) and the locations of fractures were inferior wall(5 cases), inferior and medial walls(4 cases), and medial wall(2 cases). Trap-door type fractures were 17 cases(63%) and open-door type fractures were 10 cases(37%). Operative procedures were done at 15 cases(56%). Among the cases of operation, average bony defect size was
380cm2 in pure blow-out fractures and 130mm2 in impure blow-out fractures. Postoperative complications were as follows ; diplopia and EOM limitation(2 cases), enophthalmos(1 cases) in pure blow-out fractures and infraorbital paresthesia(2 cases), hypesthesia(1 case), wound infection(1 case) in impure blow-out fractures.
