Management of Penetrating Laryngeal Trauma Patients

ABSTRACT

The penetrating laryngeal trauma is relatively rare and complications are frequent. Establishing of an airway by tracheostomy, not intubation, is initial focal point in the management. The purpose of management is to preservation of the phonatory and airway sphincter function. Early reapproximation of lacerated mucosa and reduction and fixation of the fractures may be the key to successful management. The esophagoscopy is to be performed routinly at the time of operation. Recently the author experience 4 cases of penetrating laryngeal trauma and reports with review of literatures.
