ABSTRACT |
A clinico-statistical survey of the Otolaryngological patients who visited the emergency room of the Masan Koryo General Hospital, Masan, Korea, covering three years of period from Jan. 1987 to Dec. 1989, was carried out. The results were summarized as follows ; 1) The total number of the emergency cases was 44, 721, and that of the patients belong to otolaryngological field was 1,910. 2) Among those cases who belong to otolaryngological field, trauma was the most common disease(575), and foreign body(509), epistaxis(440), otologic disease(112), dyspnea(38) were next in the order of frequency. 3) Comparatively, larger number of patients visited in May, however there was no noticeable seasonal difference. 4) The ratio of the male patient to female patient was 2 : 1. 5) The most predominant age group was 20~30 in the age distribution. 6) Much more patients visited on Sunday compared with other days of week. 7) More patients arrived at the emergency room in the evening time between 5 to 10 P.M. 8) The foreign body was the most frequent cause of admission via emergency room. Additional observations and analysis on the various distribution such as sex, age, and day and time of visit in each disease group were also made.
