ABSTRACT |
Many otolaryngologists were faced with laryngotracheal stenosis as one of the most difficult problems in management. In spite of vicissitude of management, the patients are still increasing with increased necessity of keeping air way by the tracheostomy and prolonged endotracheal intubation. The methods of treatment were variable such as mechanical dilation, stenting, laryngotracheal reconstruction and segmental resection with end-to anastomosis. In the past 3 years, the authors have been treated 15 cases of laryngotracheal stenosis and the results were as follows. 1) The age distribution was followed as 6th decade 6 cases and under the 10 years of age 4 cases. Among the 15 cases, 12 cases were in male and 3 cases were in female. 2) The etiology was tracheostom 10 cases, prolonged endotracheal 4 cases and laryngeal fracture 1 case. 3) The primary disease were followed as head trauma 6 cases, drug intoxication 3 cases and major surgery 2 cases. 4) The sites of stenosis were followed as glottis 2 cases, subglottis 4 cases, trachea 6 cases, and combined sites 3 cases. 5) The methods of treatment were used as conservative 1 case and surgery 14 cases.
