ABSTRACT

The laryngeal stenosis still as one of the most troublesome problem in the field of otolaryngology. In spite of the development of the new technical methods, the patients of laryngeal stenosis are still increasing. In the past 3 years, the authors have managed 10 cases of laryngeal stenosis. The results were so follows ; 1) In the age and sex distribution, there was higher incidence in the third decade(4 cases) and first decade(3 cases)(average 27 years old) and more often found in the males(1.5 : 1). 2) In the causes of stenosis, there was highest incidence in the direct neck trauma(40%). 3) In the duration from the development of symptoms till managements, there were much differences between good results(average 7 month) and bad results(average 42 month), but not significant statistically. And there were no relations of results to the durations from onset of causes till development of symptoms. 4) The levels of stenosis were 6 cases of subglottic, 2 cases of glottic and combind levels(glottic & subglottic). 5) The important factors in failure of the management were causes, degree, levels of stenosis and methods of operation, but not related to age and sex.
