ABSTRACT |
Electroglottography is one of the objective methods to evaluate the vocal fold vibration during phonation. It measures the electrical impedance across the neck in the vicinity of the glottis. We applied it on the ten vocal nodule or polyp patients(male 5, female 5), ten recurrent laryngeal nerve paralysis patients(male 5, female 5), and twenty normal control(male 10, female 10). Obtained wave forms were analyzed with two parameters;Closed Quotient(C.Q.) and Speed Quotient of glottal contact(S.Q.). In the vocal nodule or polyp group, both C.Q. and S.Q. were increased comparing to those of normal control. Flat segment of the wave was noted typically during the phase of decreasing glottal contact area. In the recurrent laryngeal nerve paralysis group, wave form was not formed in cases of complete paralysis. Closed quotient(C.Q.) and S.Q. of the wave form were decreased in the incomplete paralysis.
