ABSTRACT |
Nine Cases of branchial cleft cysts were reviewed with the emphasis on the clinical aspects and histopathology. The results were as follows ; 1) Sex distribution was 5 males and 4 females. Age distribution was most common in 2rd and 3th decade, which was 8 cases(89%). 2) The main symptoms were increased size in 4 cases, recurrent upper respiratory infection in 3 cases. 3) The most common location was anterior to upper 1/3 of sternocleidomastoid muscle in 6 cases. 4) Pre-operative diagnosis, as branchial cleft cysts in 4 cases and as cystic hygroma in 3 cases, so differential diagnosis is important. 5) In histopathologic studies, the epithelium lined with stratified squamous was in 7 cases, columnar in 1 case and mixed in 1 case. 6) According to Baily classifications, type II 6 cases, type I in 3 cases.
