ABSTRACT |
Clinical observation was made on the 5 cases of otogenic brain abscess with concise review of literature. 2 cases were associated with lateral sinus thrombophlebitis. We have carried out a clinical study on the otogenic brain abscess which were diagnosed and surgically treated from Mar. 1981 to Aug. 1987. The following results were obtained. : 1) Age distribution was from 9 to 32 year old. 2) The sex ratio of male to female was 3 : 2, and slight predominant in male. 3) The site of lesion was left temporal lobe in 3 cases(60%), right temporal lobe in 1 case(20%), and cerebellar abscess in 1 case(20%). 4) Radical mastoidectomy was performed on the entire cases with set-drain insertion in 4 cases(80%) and craniectomy with set-drain insertion in 1 case(20%). 5) The entire cases were treated successfully without recurrence, and complication, except 1 case of wound infection.
