ABSTRACT

The parotid gland tumor is not common tumor in head and neck surgery. The histopathological variability, slow growth, infrequent malignant incidence and low mortality rate of the tumor had delayed its surgical development. But the recent progress in the facial nerve surgery has promoted the activity of the parotid tumor surgery. The author has the following results with the study of the twenty four patients of the parotid tumors who were treated for the past seven years. 1) The most frequent age incidence was forties and the sex ratio of male to female was 1 : 1.6. 2) The number developed in the superficial lobe was 18 cases(78.2%). 3) Adhesion to the facial nerve was seen in 3 cases(13%). 4) In 6 cases(25%) retrograde approach technique was performed because posterior approach was impossible. 5) Histopathologically the most frequent tumor was the 18 cases(75%) of pleomorphic adenoma. 6) No recurrence was observed during the follow-up of the benign parotid tumors.
