ABSTRACT |
Cystic lesions within the major salivary glands, especially the parotid gland, can be diagnostic dilemmas and are not as rare as one might speculate. According to Batsakis, parotid cystic lesions comprise 2 to 6% of all salivary gland tumors. The authors recently experienced two interesting cases of parotid cystic lesions which was diagnosed by ultrasonography. One was retention cyst originated from the deep lobe of the parotid gland and it was located just beneath the facial nerve which was stretched due to cystic mass. The other was mixed tumor originated from the superficial lobe of the parotid gland which was grossly cystic lesion with its seromucinous contents, but it was confirmed as mixed tumor interestingly.
