ABSTRACT |
Authors have studied 25 cases of patients of the scalding burn who visited ENT Clinic of Inje Medical College, Busan Baik Hospital from January 1980 to October 1985 for the purpose of prevention and teatment of the scalding burn. The following results were obtained. 1) The scalding burn was developed due to swallowing a hot water of a Coal briquette boiler. 2) The scalding burn showed male predominance(24 cases, 96%). 3) In age distribution, its highest incidence was at 31-40 years group(15 cases, 60%). 4) In year distribution, the frequency of the scalding burn tends to increase in number since 1983. 5) In monthly distribution, almost cases(20 cases, 80%) had occurred during winter season(from November to next March). 6) The pain and swallowing difficulty were the chief presenting complaints in all cases, and 15 cases(60%) suffered from dyspnea. 7) Among 15 cases(60%) with dyspnea, tracheostomy was performed in 6 cases and coniotomy in 3 cases. 8) On aspect of location of the scalding burn, 21 cases(84%) were located above the hypopharynx and 13 cases(50%) were located above the supraglottis and 2 cases(8%) above the glottis. 9) On aspect of mucosal findings, all cases showed redness and swelling, 23 cases(92%) showed erosion, 9 cases(36%) ulceration.
