ABSTRACT |
For many years, the standard treatment for the laryngotracheal stenosis has been repeated dilatation until the lumen of the larynx and trachea stabilized. Intralesional injection of steroid, laryngotracheoplasty, end-to end anastomosis and long term stenting of stenotic area have been used also in selected cases. But these techniques have not given high degree of success rate. Since Jako studied surgical techniques with carbon dioxide laser on a canine vocal cord, the use of carbon dioxide laser to the management of laryngotracheal stenosis was promising and suggested that a superior from surgery had been found. The purpose in this article is to report our experience of management using carbon dioxide laser in 6 cases of various laryngotracheal stenosis from September' 84 to March' 85. We concluded as follows ; 1) The use of carbon dioxide laser energy has become an established technique in management of various laryngotracheal stenosis. 2) In severe circumferential subglottic stenosis, the laser was poor outcome.
