Clinical and Pathological Studies of Laryngeal Polyps

ABSTRACT

The 90 patients with laryngeal polyp (74 male and 16 female) were investigated clinically and pathologically. They were classified into three groups : 67 cases with the vocal polyps, 13 cases with the vocal nodules, and 10 cases with polypoid degeneration of the vocal cords. Results were as follows ; 1) Age and sex distribution revealed marked preponderance at the age of fourth decade 32 cases (35.6%) and male 74 cases (82.2%). 2) Side distribution showed unilateral preponderance 72 cases (80%). 3) Most common site was anterior one third of true vocal cord 43 cases (47.8%). 4) Main pathologic findings of the vocal polyps were hypertrophy, keratinization parakeratosis on the epithelium and edema, telangiectasia, hemorrhage on the subepithelial connective tissue.
