Sudden hearing loss may be defined as an abrupt loss of hearing occurring over a period of hours or a few days without definitive cause. Unfortunately it is all too common, and vascular dysfunction of cochlea and viral infection are the most commonly discussed etiologic factors. So many possible ways to improve cochlear blood flow and treatment to viral infection are used as a medical treatment. Authors evaluated 17 cases of idiopathic sudden hearing loss that were treated with intravenous histamine phosphate, vasodilator regimens, low molecular weight dextran, steroid and vitamine with brief review of literatures. Therapeutic results were 3 cases of complete recovery, 4 cases of good recovery, 3 cases of moderate recovery and 7 cases of no recovery. Favourable prognostic signs for recovery were absence of vertigo, early treatment(within 1 week).
