ABSTRACT

There has recently been increasing numbers of literature with regard to the sleep apnea syndrome for its etiology, diagnostic measures and managements during the last two decades. It is a well known factor that one of cause of the sleep apnea syndrome is adenotonsillar hypertrophy incurring upper airway obstruction. The indication for adenotonsillectomy has been included the adenotonsillar hypertrophy producing the sleep apnea syndrome as the absolute indication, whereas the previous indication for infectious disorders has been considered as the relative one. The age has been a factor for the contraindication of tonsillectomy, however, the condition of patient is more important decision point for surgical procedure, even though the age of patient may be inadequate for surgical procedure. We report additional 2 cases of the sleep apnea syndrome which was successfully treated with adenotonsillectomy.
