A Clinical Study of Foreign Bodies in Bronchoesophagus |

ABSTRACT |
Author have statistically analysed the 87 cases of the foreign bodies in air and food passage which were treated endoscopically at Dept. of E.N.T. in Ewha Womans University Hospital during 5 years from Jan. 1979 to Dec. 1983. The following results were obtained. 1) The ratio between food and air passage was about 16 : 1. 2) In sex distribution, male were prevalent(M : F=57.9% : 42.1%). 3) In the age incidence, 65.6% of the esophageal foreign bodies were under 5 years of age and 14.7% were over 40 years of age. 4) The most common foreign bodies in esophagus were coin(65.9%) and meat ball(8.5%). 5) The most prevalent site of lodgement in the esophagus was the first narrowing(82.0%). In the air passage, bronchial foreign bodies were more common and the right bronchus was the more frequent site(40.0%). 6) In duration of lodgement, 87.9% of esophageal foreign bodies and 60% of foreign bodies in the air passage were removed within one day.
