Acute rhinitis and allergic rhinitis that are common disease at E.N.T. clinics has similar symptoms despite of different pathophysiology. Therefore antihistamine and vasoconstrictor are used for their symptomatic therapy. Thymico is combined preparation with a powerful antihistamine action, long-acting vasoconstriction and antispasmodic activity. Clinical study of therapeutic effect of Thymico was carried out in 20 cases suffering from acute rhinitis and 18 cases suffering from allergic rhinitis. They are evaluated for daily symptom score of subjective symptoms (nasal obstruction, sneezing and rhinorrhea) and anterior rhinoscopic examinations (rhinorrhea and mocosal congestion or edema) Following results was obtained. 1) In cases of acute rhinitis, after 7 days of administration of Thymico, the mean daily symptom scores for nasal obstruction, sneezing and rhinorrhea improved from 2.15 to 0.75, 2.10 to 0.60 and 2.25 to 0.45, respectively. And in anterior rhinoscopic examination the mean daily score for rhinorrhea and mucosal congestion or edema improved from 2.05 to 0.40 and 1.90 to 0.50, respectively. 2) In cases of allergic rhinitis, after 7 dayes of administration of Thymico, the daily symptom acores for nasal obstruction, sneezing and rhinorrhea improved from 2.00 to 0.67, 2.28 to 0.78 and 2.22 to 0.50, respectively. And in anterior rhinoscopic examination, the mean daily score for rhinorrhea and mucosal congestion or edema improved from 2.11 to 0.45 and 2.28 to 0.67, respectively. 3) Of 38 cases, the adverse effects were 4 cases of mild dryness of mouth, 3 cases of drawsiness and 1 case of G-I disturbance. From the results mentioned above, Thymico was proven effective in symptomatic relief of acute rhinits and allergic rhinitis.
