Labyrinthine fistula occours in an overwhelming majority in patients with cholesteatoma, and the policy of handling a fistula varies in different centers. In an attempt to understand the nature and pronosis of labyrinthine fistula, we reviewed the records of 19 labyrinthine fistula cases and the results were as follows; 1) The association rate with cholesteatoma was 94.7%(18/19 cases). 2) The sexual distribution was 11 males and 8 females. 3) The rate of patients with vertigenous symptoms was 47.4%(9/19 cases). 4) The positive rate of the fistula test was 69.2(9/13 cases). 5) The site of labyrinthine fistula was mainly lateral SCC alone(89.5%, 17/19 cases), and 1 case of posterior SCC(5.3%), coexistence of lateral and superior SCC was also noted in 1 case(5.3%). 6) The rate of patients accompaning facial nerve palsy was 21.1%(4/19 cases), and the rate of facial nerve dehiscence was 52.6%(10/19 cases). 7) In the result of hearing evaluation, 9 patients showed moderate to severe sensorineural or mixed hearing losses(47.4%), in whom 2 patients were deaf(10.5%). At the postoperative test of hearing, no patient showed decreased bone conduction value.
