ABSTRACT

Sutton's disease is characterized by long-standing and necrotizing ulcers of the oral mucosa that persist, remit and recur for variable periods of time. Despite the benign nature of the disease, persistent pain and unceration may disable patients form performing their daily activities. We describe two patients with Sutton's disease who were treated with short-term oral steroid and oral colchicine. In one patient, colchicine therapy was discontinued by himself but recurrence ocurred within several days. Then treatment with colchicine was restarted, a second remission was achieved within few days. At present, all patients experienced a marked decrease in symptoms and a remission of the disease. We review the literature on the subject and we conclude that colchicine therapy is an effective treatment for Sutton's disease.
