ABSTRACT |
Retropharyngeal abscess commonly develops in children but rarely in adults. Even though it develop in adults, its cause is mainly direct trauma. Tuberculous retropharyngeal abscess develops mainly as a result of cervical vertebral osteomyelitis. Primary tuberculous retrophryngeal abscess in adults is very rare. Pregnancy is not a predisposing condition for the development or progression of tuberculosis. The impact of pregnancy of TB apears minimal except for potentially obscuring the diagnosis and possibly increasing the risk of TB activation during the postpartum period. We report a case of primary tuberculous retropharyngeal abscess without cervical osteomyelitis which developed in pregnant woman, whose medical history had no pulmonary tuberculosis.
