Combination of Chemotherapy and Radiation Therapy for Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma

ABSTRACT

Twenty-two patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma were treated by combination of chemotherapy and radiation therapy with curative intent in Seoul National University Hospital between 1987 and 1991. Minimum follow-up period of survivors was 42.6 mounths. Twenty-one patients had stage IV disease, and the most common histopathology was undifferenciated carcinoma(68%) and the others squamous cell carcinoma(32%). Complete remission was observed in 21 patients(95%). Among these, 7 patients had recurred. The overall survival rate was 68% at 5 years.
