ABSTRACT |
Epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma of intercalated ducts origin(EMCID) is a rare tumor with slightly fewer than 1% of salivary gland neoplasms. The morphologic features of EMCID are generally quite distinct from other salivary tumors. Histologically, the carcinomas are characterized by a dual cell population of epithelial cells and myoepithelial cells. Although originally thought to be benign, it is now apparent that EMCID is a low grade malignancy. Clinically this tumor predominantly arises in the parotid glands with a decided locoreginal aggressiveness. Reports of EMCID are still relatively few. Furthermore there are limited reports of EMCID with facial palsy or that with involving external auditory canal and postauricular skin. We report a unusual case of EMCID invading external auditory canal and postauricular skin, and also that having facial palsy.
