ABSTRACT |
Most of the cancers from larynx and hypopharynx are of the squamous variety, but various histopathologic types of malignant tumor can occur in the laryngopharynx. These non-squamous cell tumors have quite different patterns of clinical behavior compared to squamous variety, such as invasive characters, route of metastasis, treatment modality, and so on. An accurate histopathologic diagnosis of these non-squamous cell tumors is rather difficult because they are somewhat rare in incidence and need for specific diagnostic methods. The authors experienced 13 cases of non-squamous cell tumors arisen from larynx and hypopharynx during the 10-year period from 1985 to 1994. We present their clinical features, therapeutic modalities and results with review of literatures.
