A Case of Chondrosarcoma of the Hyoid Bone

ABSTRACT

Chondrosarcoma is a malignancy very rarely encountered in the head and neck, but it displays a propencity for progressive spread and recurrences. The prognosis of this tumor is unfavorable and generally, Wide surgical resection is generally recommended for the treatment of chondrosarcoma. The authors experienced a case of chondrosarcoma of the hyoid bone which occurred in 39-year-old male. The patient underwent wide excision of the tumor and hemihyoidectomy. Histopathological findings showed a well differentiated chondrosarcoma that originated from the periphery of the hyoid bone.
