ABSTRACT

With a blow to the head, a contre-coup lesion rarely occurs in another than the region of impact. A patient had the left temporal bone fracture by a blow and 10 days later right facial nerve paralysis of peripheral type was developed. It was found to be caused by compression of the geniculate ganglion due to meningeal edema of the temporal lobe, which was confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging. It is thought that the meningeal edema occurred as contrecoup injury of the head trauma.
