ABSTRACT

Temporal resolution(TR) of the auditory system refers to its ability to detect changes in stimuli over time and it is known as the basic function of the auditory system along with frequency resolution. TR has been reported in human with different results and this difference is believed to be the effects of psychoacoustics. To overcome this problem, electrophysiologic recording on the direct response pattern of the auditory pathway was performed in cats. Five cats were used and the heads of the animals were fixed with a stereotaxic instrument. Microelectrode was inserted to the cochlear nucleus and double click sound(77 dB-101 dB) was delievered to the external auditory canal with time interval of 0.25, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 ms. The neurons that showed response seemed to be those of relatively high characteristic frequency(CF). TR of secondary neuron in cochlear nucleus was about 1 ms. In high sound pressure level, it was decreased of numbers of neurons that showed TR.
