ABSTRACT |
Spontaneous nystagmus is an important sign in vestibular disorders. But the method of examination is different among authors. To compare the effect of visual condition on spontaneous nystagmus(SPN), we examined spontaneous nystagmus(SPN) in 65 dizzy patients with eyes open in darkness(EOD), eyes closed(EC) and eyes open under Frenzel glasses(EOF). 1) 18 patients(26.7%) had spontaneous nystagmus. 2) Among 18 patients(100%), 10 patients(56%) had SPN only with EOD, 2 patients(11%) had SPN only with EC. 4 patients(22%) had SPN with EOD and EC, 1 patient with EOD and EOF and 1 patient with three conditions. 3) The mean maximal slow phase velocity of SPN only with EOD was 17.6 deg/sec and SPN only with EC 14.3 deg/sec.
