ABSTRACT |
Laryngeal amyloidosis is a rare disease which may occur as primary or secondary to other diseases. Diagnosis of this disease is made by histologic examination of involved tissue. It shows an apple-green colored birefringence by Congo red stain under polarized microscope and also shows specific findings by crystal violet, methyl violet and periodic acid-Schiff stains. The incidence of larynx-limited amyloidosis is less than 1% of all benign lesions of larynx. Its effective treatment is intermittent surgical resection. In localized cases,
CO2 LASER vaporization is a possible treatment that gives less surgical tissue damage. The purpose of this presentation is to report 2 patients who had the laryngeal amyloidosis. The clinical behavior, diagnostic methods and pathologic findings are reviewed.
