Nasal cytogram offers interesting perspectives for the study of exudative diseases. Using Papanicolaou stain, it was attempted to establish a correlation between the observable pathology of cellular elements from a nasal smear and the different types of pathologies, i.e., allergic rhinitis, vasomotor rhinitis, and infectious rhinitis. 1) The ratio of goblet cells to columnar cells was significantly increased and the ratio of cytolysis in columnar cells was significantly decreased in allergic and the vasomotor rhinitis. 2) The ratio of goblet cells to columnar cells was not increased and the ratio of cytolysis in columnar cells significantly decreased in infectious rhinitis. 3) The ratio of goblet cells to columnar cells was significantly decreased in infectious rhinitis than non-infectious rhinitis when infectious and non-infectious rhinitis were classified by nutrophil infiltration on slide.
