ABSTRACT |
High resolution computed tomography(CT) is extremely valuable in defining the normal and pathologic anatomy of the temporal bone. A major advantage of high resolution C-T is its ability to allow the observer to directly visualize soft tissue masses. We have completely replaced conventional polytomography with this technique, which uses 1.5mm thick slices modified with a high bony detail algorithm available from the manufacturer. Scans are routinely obtained in axial(the view from below) and coronal(the view from the front) positions. The examination usually takes approximately 30 minutes to perform. A similar procedure is employed in evaluating inner ear disease. We has been studied that the normal findings in the temporal bone were well seen in the comparative observation between high resolution C-T and cadaveric dissection of temporal bone.
