ABSTRACT |
Rhinomanometry is a very useful tool for evaluating nasal airway function. Although many techniques have been developed and employed in the clinical practices, anterior and posterior rhinomanometry are most popular and reliable ones. For the clinical application of these methods, it's very important to gather normal values of rhinologically healthy persons and standardize them. So we performed anterior and posterior rhinomanometry in seventy healthy persons and total nasal resistance(TNR)s at the point that nasal airway pressure equals 0.5cm
H2O were calculated. And then, we analized datas according to the sex, the age, the inspiration or expiration and the kind of techniques. The following results were obtained ; 1) Total nasal resistances of the male were not significantly different from those of the female(p>0.05). 2) Total nasal resistances in the group below the age of 10 years were highest and those in the group above the age of 60 years were lowest(p<0.05). 3) Total nasal resistances during the
inspiration were not significantly different from those during the expiration(p>0.05). 4) The correlation between total nasal resistances of anterior and posterior rhinomanometry was significantly high(p=0.000) and correlation between the mask method and the nozzle method of the anterior rhinomanometry was relatively high(p=0.000).
