A Case of Primary Tuberculosis of the Pharynx |

ABSTRACT |
Pharyngeal tuberculosis associated with active pulmonary tuberculosis was a common disease in the past, but it has become rare with the advent of anti-tuberculous chemotherapy. Moreover, Primary tuberculosis of the pharynx is now extremely rare. Authors recently experienced a case of primary tuberculosis of the pharynx. The patient was 50 year old man with the complaints of progressive weakness, sore throat and foreign body sensation of throat for one month and left cervical lymphadenopathy for twenty days. Histopathologically, it was confirmed as tuberculosis of the pharynx, however chest X-ray revealed negative and tubercle bacilli could not be identified in sputum by smear and culture. He was treated successfully with anti-tuberculous chemotherapy.
