ABSTRACT

Tuberculous infection of the paranasal sinuses is a very rare entity. Up to 1979, not more than 41 cases of tuberculosis of the maxillary sinuses were reported in literature. We recently have experienced a case of primary tuberculosis of the maxillary sinus with no positive sign of pulmonary tuberculosis in a 34-year-old miner. Surgery followed by antituberculous medication effected a cure. To confirm the diagnosis and differenciate with other nasal granulomatous diseases, it is necessary to identify the organism in the tissue specimens obtained during biopsy or from tissue cultures. Review of relevant literature is presented.
