ABSTRACT

To standardize the rise time of a pure tone stimulus effective for using the auditory brainstem response(ABR) as objective audiometry, the amplitude, latency and detectability of the response were measured as a effectiveness of stimulus rise time. The test was performed on 20 normal adults with 0.5-and 1-kHz tone pips at various intensity levels from 0 to 50dB HL. The results are as follows : The ABR was elicited by the early part of the stimulus, and the succeeding part had little effect in eliciting the response, if the initial part was intense enough to evoke the response, but at lower intensity levels, further succeeding parts participated in evoking the response. This effective duration of the stimulus was estimated at 2ms for 1kHz, at 4ms for 0.5kHz.
