ABSTRACT

It is very difficult to manage the tumors which are resectable but closely attached to the carotid artery. Because the carotid artery is a major vessel supplying the intracranium, damage to this vessel may cause severe neurologic complications, such as hemiplegia, resulting from cerebral ischemia. It is, therefore, essential to remove the tumor mass including the carotid artery completely and to replace the carotid artery with Goretex in these cases. Recently, the authors experienced a case of metastatic cervical lymph node involving carotid artery which was successfully managed by removing the tumor with carotid artery completely and replacing with Goretex.
