ABSTRACT

Rhinolith are rare in the nasal cavity, and are called as nasal concretion or nasal calculi. They usually have a foreign body nucleus of bacteria, blood, pus cells, mucus, crusts or some foreign material from outside of body. They are largely composed of calcium and magnesium salts, principally carbonate and phospate, with traces of sodium chloride. Recently we experienced a case of rhinolith in left nasal cavity. A 31-year-old female was seen on November 30th, 1987, suffering from nasal obstruction on the left nasal cavity with malodorous mucopurulent discharge. Anterior rhinoscopy revealed that dark brownish and hard object was seen between the septum and the inferior turbinate at posterior portion of left nasal cavity. Under local anesthesia, the mass measuring 3.0×2.5×1.5cm and weighing approximately 20gm was removed with a nasal forceps.
