ABSTRACT

Actinomycosis is a disease caused by the anaerobic, gram positive actinomyces israelli or actinomycoses naeslundii. The resulting chronic, purulent inflammation of deep tissue evolves with necrosis, formation of sinuses and fibrotic mass. It can present in a variety of forms and may mimic other infections or even neoplasms. Even though management with antibiotics has good results, surgical intervention with drainage or excision of an infected lesion may be necessary for eradication of an illness. Recently authors experienced a cases of actinomycosis in tongue, that has excised under the impression of solid tumor confirmed pathologically.
