ABSTRACT |
Vestibular neuritis is a discrete degenerative neuropathy of the vestibular nerve trunks. The etiology for the loss of the vestibular function is postulated to be a viral neuritis. An awareness of this disorder as a disease entity will minimize diagnostic and therapeutic frustration on the part of the physician and provide a realistic prognosis for the patient. We have experienced 12 cases of vestibular neuritis who presented the decreased caloric response in the involved ear without an associated hearing loss and the complete subsidence of symptoms within 6 months. So we report our 12 cases of vestibular neuritis with review of the literature.
