ABSTRACT

Carotid artery rupture is the most serious complication after major operation in head and neck cancer patients or radiation therapy in unresectable tumors. Although it's treatment is markedly advanced, carotid artery ligation is the choice of treatment, but has been high morbidity and mortality such as neurologic sequelae, strokes, episodes of rebleeding or death, despite of intensive cares. And carotid artery rupture can occur after trauma. The authors have recently experienced two cases of carotid artery rupture and it's ligation after radiation therapy and trauma, so we report these cases with review of literatures.
