ABSTRACT

The dermoid cyst is a developmental tumor probably resulted from incorporation of ectoderm at the time of closure of embryonic fissures during the third and fourth weeks in utero. This usually becomes evident between 12 and 25 years of age. Dermoid cyst of the head and neck account for nearly 7% of all dermoid cysts. The incidence in the oral cavity is low, approximately 1.6% of all dermoid cysts, rare forms occur on the dorsum of tongue and hard and soft palate. Recently the authors have experienced a dermoid cyst of the soft palate which was noted as a growing mass by the patient. This was removed surgically and it's lining was destroyed by electrocautery. So we report this case with review of literatures.
