ABSTRACT |
The retrospective study of 153 cases of histopathologically confirmed malignant tumors has been done during the past 9 years since the inception of medical insurance at the department of ENT, Wonju Christian Hospital which is located in Wonju, center of the traffic in Kangwon area. A clinical and statistical study of the cases was made with the following results. 1) Among 1507 biopsy cases during 9 years, malignant tumors were confirmed in 153 cases(10.2%). 2) The age distribution was most common in the age from 50 to 69(58.9%), and sex ratio between male and female was 2.8 : 1 in malignant tumors. 3) The most frequently encountered malignant tumors were found in the larynx(32.6%), the oral cavity(24.2%), the pharynx(21.5%), the nose and paranasal sinus(18.3%) and the other areas(3.3%) in descending order. 4) Histopathologically the most frequent tumor was squamous cell carcinoma(83.0%), malignant lymphoma(9.8%), adenocystic carcinoma(3.9%) and adenocarcinoma(2.6%) in descending order. 5) Most patients(89.5%) visited the hospital within one year after the onset of symptoms. 6) About half of patients were only diagnosed without management at this hospital.
