ABSTRACT |
Authors observed histopathologically the changes with age group on randomly selected 190 palatine tonsils obtained by tonsillectomy from Jan. 1980 to June 1984 in department of Otolaryngology, Pusan National University Hospital. The results obtained were as follows ; 1) On the surface epithelium, hyperplasia was gradually increased with age but cellular infiltration was gradually decreased with age. 2) On the subepithelial tissue of surface, hyperplasia of connective tissue was gradually increased with age and capillary proliferation was seen most frequently in 21-25 years of age group. 3) On the crypt epithelium, there were no relation with age in hyperplasia and hyperkeratosis. Desquamation was seen most frequently in 11-15 years of age group. 4) On the subepithelial tissue of crypt, hyperplasia of connective tissue was gradually increased with age. Cellular infiltration was seen in more than 90% between 6 to 25 years of age and especially all the cases showed infiltration of leukocytes in 11-15 years of age group. Capillary proliferation was seen most frequently in 11-20 years of age group. 5) On the lymphoid follicle, hyperplasia was seen most frequently in 11-15 years of age group. Atrophic change was seen gradually increased with age. 6) On the capsule and the trabecular system, hyperplasia of connective tissue was gradually increased with age. 7) The thickening of arterial wall was seen lowest ratio in 11-15 years of age group. 8) Cellular infiltration of vascular wall and perivascular tissue was seen in all age group without relation with age.
