ABSTRACT

An audiometric study was designed on standardization of Korea phonetically balanced word list for speech audiometry in normal hearing subjects. Authors had made three world lists composed of monosyllables similar to Korean daily conversation and compared them with other three word lists reported previously, by statistical analysis. PB words in each list were administered through microphone and earphone of Grason-Stadler 1704 audiometer to 20 college students (10 male and 10 female) with normal hearing in IAC 401A sound proof chamber. A male live voice monitored on VU meter was used and the interval between each Pb word ranged three seconds and intensity level was raised on 10dB step, from 0dB to 50dB (0dB reference as pure tone averages in each subject) in each list with sufficient rest interval between tests. The results were as follows; 1) Articulation curves with authors' lists were less steeper than that with other lists reported previously. 2) Sum of square error to estimate the difference from regression line to articulation curve was lower in authors' lists and high in others. 3) It is ideal to make the phonetically balanced word list with syllables which are familiar nonsense and similar composite of Korean daily conversation.
