Senior year medical student performance during a brief clinical clerkship is a complex problem. As demands for improvement in the clinical clerkship of senior medical student, the need for expanded and innovative training programmes, general instructional objective, specific behavioral objectives, strategies and evaluation method have been demanded. An evaluation system that measures only cognitive knowledge by utilizing written examination is inadequate because attitudes and clinical skills are also important in the development of physicians and these should also be evaluated. This paper datails the training programmes, general instructional objective, specific behvaioral objectives and evaluation method of senior year medical students during a week required clerkship in Otolaryngology at the Ewha Womans University. A group included 4 students rotating through the clerkship in a week time period. Students spend most of the time on the clerkship in the out patient clinic where they see and examine an average of
10~15 patients and discuss them with the departmental staff and residents. Overall clerkship objectives include that the student will become proficient in the extraction of an Otorhinolaryngologic history and the performance of ear, nose, throat examination and will be able to provide first-line care for Otorhinolaryngologic emergencies.
