ABSTRACT |
Otosclerosis is correctly termed otospongiosis progressiva insidiosa or more briefly otospongiosis. It consist of one or several circumscribed area of new, vascular, spongy bone which is less dense and sclerotic than the petrose bone of the normal labyrinthine capsule that it replaces. Clinically it causes progressive or sensorineural in nature. It occurs most commonly in middle aged adults. Authors analysed the case which is thought otosclerosis clinically and stapedectomy was performed for the purpose of therapy and pathological confirmation. The pathologic study of our cases show no typical finding of otospongiosis and is thought the simple fixation of stapes foot-plate due to previous unknown inflamatory process occurred in middle ear cavity. This paper is dealt with its case study as well as pathological discussion and its literature analysis.
