ABSTRACT |
The authors had experienced acute tetracaine intoxication for topical application with 4cc of 2% tetracaine in oral cavity, pharynx and trachea for flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy. The patient was 40 years old man who had been suffering from frequent hemoptysis for 2 weeks prior come to the hospital. However there was no specific abnormality on X-ray of chest, heart and any other laboratory data. The sudden onset of shock reaction was occurred with loss of consciousness, convulsion immediately and ceased heart beat and respiration one minute after spray of 2% tetracaine about 5cc in larynx and trachea. The patient recovered the heart beat 2 minutes after ceased heart beat. Respiration recovered 15 minutes later and consciousness returned completely 24 hours later.
