Various kinds of neurophysiologic techniques have been used for testing vestibular function, but there were no available data for Korean people. 25 young healthy medical and nursing school students (male 18, female 7) were teated with Romberg test, gait test, stepping test, and caloric test to obtain normal variation of the test results. The following results were obtained 1. In Romberg test, there was no falling or falling sensation for 1 minute in all cases. 2. About 69% of the cases showed left side deviation in gait test, and the greated deviation was 51.5cm to the right side in female. The ranges of the deviation were as follows.
|
Rt. |
Lt. |
Male…… |
20.6cm |
9.6cm |
Female… |
51.5cm |
28.8cm |
3. Stepping test showed no backward movements in all cases, and about 57% of the cases showed right side deviation. The greatest deviation was 106.5cm to the left side in 100 steppings. The ranges of the degree of the deviation and the rotation were as follows.
degree of
deviation… |
14.0~20.7 |
degree of
rotation… |
18.3~22.8 |
4.
Caloric test was performed with 5cc of ice water on the right side and then on the left side with 5 minutes interval. The range of duration of nystagmus and sense of rotation were as follows.
Nystagmus : |
73.3sec~95.8sec. |
Sense of rotation : |
74.2sec~110.8sec. |
Duration of the Nystagmus and the sense of rotation on the left side were longer than that on the right side.
